Bobcat Service
Machine-with-Operator Service
Description and Function:
The bucket is removed from the skid steer, and in its place the backhoe attachment is connected. The operator then sits on a seat on the attachment outside of the normal operator's cab of the bobcat, and operates the backhoe from there.
Though somewhat more limited in range and flexibiity in comparison to a mini-excavator, the backhoe attachment is still a very effective tool.
Where it becomes espectially useful is in applications where some trenching or excavating needs to be done, but also the dirt needs to be carried to another location - like to another spot on the site, into a dump truck or bin, for removal, etc. Since you need a loader (skid steer/bobcat) for that anyway, in some cases it may be more advantageous (especially cost-wise) to have the bobcat brought along with a backhoe attachment to handle the trenching part of the work.
Has a maximum dig depth of 9 1/2 feet.
Price:
$ 100 per day - rental rate
(additional to hourly charge for the basic bobcat that it needs to run it, with operator)
Applications & Purpose:
When needing to trench and move the excavated material away (or drill holes, break concrete or for some other reason require a bobcat at the same time), a backhoe attachment and skid steer in combination is a good solution.
Therefore nearly any contractor, builder, homeowner, landscaper or trade may require and benefit by having this useful combination on site.
Compatibility:
Only certain models of skid steers will work with a backhoe attachment (or specifically, the backhoe attachments that our organization stocks at some of our branches). The skid steer must be a Bobcat brand machine, and of a number of specific models (such as S130/S150/S175, etc), and the unit in particular must have some special parts installed to allow the attachment to hook up to it safely. Only full size class machines (5 & 6 feet) and with auxilliary hydraulics will run the backhoe.
It digs up to 9.5 feet deep, and swings about 80-degrees right and left. Not as versatile as a mini-excavator or as easy to operate, but it does have its practical applications.
Availability:
We do not stock many backhoe attachments currently, and those that we do are at only a couple of our GTA locations.
A backhoe attachment is perfect when the job at hand needs trenching/excavatating and the need for a loader - one machine will do it - a skid steer (with bucket) and backhoe attachment
Play the video below to see it in action:
This is a pretty good 1-minute video of a backhoe attachment in action, although the jobsite doesn't look typical or very realistic. The first 30 seconds demonstrates a model that is similar to what we stock; the second backhoe shown in the final 30 seconds is somewhat different (the operator doesn't sit inside on ours). But it does give a glimpse at what the attachment can do. Please note that our own video demonstrating this attachment will be forthcoming once we finish its production.
