Bobcat Service
Machine-with-Operator Service
Description and Function:
Cut narrow trenches in the earth without time, site/ground disturbance and mess associated with an excavator – even one with a narrow 9 or 10 inch bucket.  This can cut trenches only a few inches wide, leaving a narrow furrow of cast-off material neatly beside the trench for easy  and low-effort and minimally-disruptive  backfilling.  Perfect for irrigation lines, shallow electrical conduit and lines, communication cables and so on.  Trenches up to 4 feet deep.
Price:
$ 200 per day - rental rate
(additional to hourly charge for the basic bobcat that it needs to run it, with operator)
Applications & Purpose:
The sole function of a trencher attachment is to be able to dig a trench (a more exact term would be to "cut" or "slice" a trench) for certain appropriate applications (such as shallow services, requiring only a narrow trench to drop in the line) without the need to use a mini-excavator which typically creates a wider trench and is more destructive.
An excavator or backhoe is an effective tool for trenching normally, but there are times when all that is needed is a narrow trench for planting a small line - almost a slit.  Examples of such include certain electrical lines (bury-able wire or conduit), communication cabling (cable, telephone, fibre optics, LAN networks, security and automated systems, etc.), parking lot lighting, landscape lighting and features, irrigation systems, pool lines, and so forth.  So, typically the contractors most frequently using this attachment and service would be utility companies, communications, irrigation and electrical installation and repair companies, pool installers, etc.
Benefits: Using a trencher as opposed to an excavator allows for a much quicker job (more linear-foot production in far less time), and leaves a finely-graded furrow of dirt neatly piled in a furrow (row) directly beside the trench for easy backfilling by hand with a shovel, and minimal destruction and mess (rake it out and drop some grass seed or sod), in most cases.

Compatibility:
All bobcats with modern couplers and standard flush-faced quick-attach auxilliary hydraulic fitting will run a trencher.
That means that nearly all of our bobcats in the 4, 5, and 6 class will work with a trencher.  A bigger machine (5 or 6-foot) will provide more power (bigger engine) and faster cutting (chain spins faster due to higher hydraulic oil flow), but the advantage of a smaller machine (4-footer) is the less weight, and hence less damage to the exisiting lawn (and narrower for tighter access jobsites).

Availability:
We do not stock trencher attachments at many of our branches, so book well in advance if possible.
