Ocassionally a customer will have a need to have 2 of our machines on site simultaneously, but will require only 1 of our operators to run them both, alternately.
Why would this need occur?
Generally this is a needed when you require both a mini-excavator for trenching or excavating a hole or pit, and also a bobcat loader for moving the excavated dirt out of the way - to another location on site or to a bin or dump truck for hauling away, (and/or grading or other bobcat-related work).
Such as?
Examples of this would be such as whenever one is doing any kind of significant digging (such as trenches for footings, services, or waterproofing, etc) where space is very limited and the dirt needs to be relocated. Any larger-sized excavations, such as backyard basement excavations for an rear-extension to a house (ie, an addition), or similar - like a pool, would be typical examples of a 2-machine project.
2 Machines, but 1 or 2 operators?
In some cases you where you need both machines to work together it may make more sense to have both with their own operator running each one full-time. That makes sense when there is a big job to be done, and the both machines will work steadily, and both have room to be working at the same time. For instance, while the excavator is digging at the back of the house, pulling dirt out of the hole for the new addition's basement, the bobcat can be running back to front continually, scooping up the excavated fill and running it out front and loading it into a waiting bin or dump truck to be hauled away. In such cases, when you need 2 machines and 2 operators, there is no additional rental fee for the second machine - you are simply charged hourly for each machine/operator rig.
Sometimes, however, there is either not enough work to keep both machines going steadily (maybe you can't get bins in and out fast enough), and it would not be economical to have only one going at a time and the other operator sitting idle, costing you money. Or perhaps the site is just so tight that both machines can't be both working at the same time. In any event, if you need both machines, but require only one operator, this is how to do it - have a second machine on a rental basis.
So how does the rental work for that second machine?
It is very simple. You are charged hourly for the machine and operator just the same you would be for a normal booking. And the second machine will be charged out on a daily rental rate, just the same as if it were an attachment. (If the rates are different between the 2 machines, we will always charge the hourly rate of the higher of the two and a rental fee for the lesser one.)
Note, if you have looked at our Rental Division, or have rented from us before through Rentals, please note that this arrangement of our operator-included service of the Bobcat Service Division has some different rules that go along with it. Please do not confuse the two; they are in fact quite different. How so?
How is the second machine rental in the Bobcat Services Division (here), different from our machine rentals in the Rentals Division?
1. The rates are different. How the time is calculate is different too.
a) Generally, the daily rate is less here than in Rentals. Or it could be close to the same. But in any event, the rate is strictly
daily - we have no minimum requirement of 2-day minimums here (unlike in Rentals where they do, in order to get the best
rate), and conversely we do not offer a discount for a weekly or similar bulk-rate, like in Rentals. Here it stays strictly a daily
rate, steadily. No half or partial days either.
b) With Rentals, time is time. Whether you use the machine or not, whether it is a Saturday, Sunday or holday, a rain day or
whatever, the clock and bill runs. When you rent a second machine from us with Bobcat Services, we generally will only
charge our daily rental rate on that machine when the operator is on site and working with it (or at least is on site providing
some services for you, using the primary machine, at least). If it is an off-day, rain-day or weekend, we will not usually
charge for the second machine as a rental that day. We say "usually", because we reserve the right to charge for any and
all days that the machine is on site if we decide to - and that is generally only in the case that the customer is
difficult/uncooperative in some way or dragging things out and tying our machine up there unduly long (sitting idle for days
on end, not paying his bill on time, or something similarly). We will rarely ever invoke this condition, but do leave it as an
option open to us.
c) Machines rented through Rentals are alway prepaid in advance, whereas the machines rented through Bobcat Services,
are billed out on invoice as per usual and paid by you in your usual manner (normally COD, on site, upon presentment of
the bill by the operator, at the conclusion, or at prescribed intervals, or upon his request - his option).
2. The fuel is included here.
- With Rentals, you have all responsibilities to do with the machine, including not only running it, but fueling it, as you are the
ones burning the fuel. Our operator runs the both machines on your site when one is a second-machine rental, and so we
pay for / provide the fuel for both. Only will run at a time, at any point, though.
3. No one else is to run the machine, but our operator.
- That is true. With Rentals, you provide the operator. With this provision, we run it; our operator does. And only him; we do not
permit others to run it (you or your people). There are several reasons for this, but the main one is that the whole pricing and
set up of this is based on the premise that our operator is running it, and that only one machine runs at a any one time.
(There are legal and other reasons too.)
4. There are none (or few) of the typical conditions that normally pertain to the Rentals Divison rentals
- If you look at our policies in our Rentals Division (or even those of other rental companies) you will see that there are
conditions that pertain to the rental of machines that clearly will not apply in this unique circumstance where you are paying a
rental fee but yet not really renting the machine from us (as you are not running it or in control of it), including such things as
there being no need, therefore, for you to provide us proof of insurance (to cover it in case of loss), the tracking of a limited
number of meter-hours per day allowable, cleaning or refueling charges, and so on.
5. We will not normally leave behind a machine after our operator leaves with the one machine
- Again, with Rentals you can generally keep a machine as long as you want - almost indefinitely - as long as you are paying
the bills for it. With a second machine rented to you in Bobcat Services, we generally must take it away with us when the
operator leaves with the primary machine, as it is frequenty booked and needed on another site immediately following yours.
If you should need a machine for longer and want to rent, speak to Rental Divison to arrange that. It is possible that the
same machine may be left with you, but do not assume that that will always be possible.
