Options for Contractors
Small Job / Limited Budget? Not in a Rush?
Consider our "Standby-Service" Option
• Do you have a couple of big landscape rocks to relocate on the same site, or a couple of trees to plant?
• Maybe a couple of skids of block or other heavy materials need to be moved around - too heavy to do by hand
• Or perhaps you have a small area sod you need dug up, a tiny walkway or patio to dig out or driveway to widen?
• Do you have 10 or 12 yards of fill that needs to be loaded into a bin?
• Or anything else along these same lines - only and hour or so of machine time will do it - consider Standby Service
• Note: as for a hole drilling job - perhaps you have just 4 or 5 post holes for a deck to be drilled - don't use this Standby
Service, rather use our Post Hole Service, which has been specifically set up for that purpose
We need to charge our minimum 4 hours in order to be viable as a business - to be able to schedule you a specific block of time and make a special trip out to your site, deliver the machine, and do the work, etc. But if you have a really small task that needs to be done by machine and you can be flexible on timing, another option does exist: "Standby" - with only a 2 hour minimum.
How "Standby" Works:
• We will charge you only a 2 hour minimum, instead of the standard 4-hour, but on the condition that we can fit you in to our schedule at our convenience (which generally means when we have the right machine in your area and a bit of time to spare).
• What you give up with Standby is the ability to be able to dictate specifically when you want us to come. So in order for Standby to work for you, you need to be not in a hurry to get the work done, and flexible as to when we do it.
• Make a booking in the normal way: call in to our dispatcher, provide us the details, but then instead of settling on a definite date and time then, like usual, you'll let us know what an acceptable window for getting to you would be - a time frame where you'd like to see the work done (like within the next 2 weeks, for instance) and how far in advance you need warning that we are coming (like the day before, typically), and if there are any other relevant factors (like a time of day that it needs to be - like after 3 PM any weekday, for instance). We'll keep track of your request (that puts you on "Standby"), and let you know as soon as the first opportunity arrives where we can fit you in. Depending on the location of your jobsite (certain areas we are in all the time, others are more remote and rare), the equipment you need (some machines are a lot more common than others, like a 5-foot bobcat) and how flexible you are on timing, type of equipment, being okay with limited advance notice and so on, these will all make a big difference as to how fast we can get to you (that and the weather, the time of the year, and how busy we are, etc).
• You'll still get our great services, you get what you need done, and save potentially a couple hundred dollars in the process.
• All other policies and pricing apply (such as the float fee) as with our regular scheduled service, other than the key differences of the lowered number of minimum hours and the fact that we do the final determination as to scheduling.
• Bear in mind, that this (Standby) can delay things a bit, so if you are in a rush or the work is critical, it is probably better that you book with us the normal way, for regular scheduled service. Standby doesn't work for everyone, but if if does for you, great!
• Just ask for "standby" when you call in to book. See - we're happy to do what we can to help you keep your costs down!
Bobcat Service
Machine-with-Operator Excavation Service
Rental
Use our with-operator service whenever you can - it will save time, and money - get your work done efficiently, accurately and safely. These are just some of the benefits of getting an expert with the machine.
However, there are times when you might have a lot of down time when the machine is just sitting while other trades do their thing, or you have handwork that has to be done first, and so on. Or you may have a job where it's just great to have a machine for the sake of convenience - where every so often it comes in handy, but the machine work isn't steady hour after hour - those are times to consider renting just the machine from us rather than having the operator come with it. As a rule of thumb, we always say that if you have a significant amount of machine work to be done, especially if that work can go on continuously, then having us supply you the operator will work out to your advantage. However, a cost savings might be had if you rent in the situation where you expect a number of lengthy and frequent interruptions. Compare our weekly rental rate here, and see if renting might be a savings for you in this case.

Contracting the work
The bottom line is that for almost any task, any project, getting a contract (firm/fixed) price is almost always going to cost you more. There may seem to be an additional measure of comfort in not "worrying" about the final price, since that has already been established from the outset - it's in the contract, after all! The reality is that quite often the peace of mind is really no more than an illusion. A contract is only as good as the contractor - it's just paper! Many customers find themselves hostage to the excavation contractor once the project is underway, and eventually find themselves forced to pay more, especially for things that are "unexpected" and covered in the excavator's small print clauses.
Remember, the contracting-excavator is using the same hourly rates (or more) as we do, and then he estimates how long it will take (probably accurately) and then heavily "pads" the price, adding a big buffer - 25% or more, thousands of dollars, just to make sure that if things go badly, he's covered. Why pay that extra for "peace of mind" that is fantasy anyway? Pay for exacly what the job takes - by time. Pay for what you get, and no more. And stay in control - with us working for you by the hour, you call the shots. Contract it and you basically give up most of your control.
So the bottom line is that in most cases, contracting the work is not a good option for lowering your costs - just the opposite, actually. (All that said, if you are still determined to contract the work, call us anyway - we can perhaps put you in touch with a reputable excavation contractor in your area.)
Special Corporate and/or Long-term Pricing
Big Contractors/Developers - and/or - Big Jobs:
While we have firmly established pricing that is clearly posted on our pages of this site, and those prices are kept up to date here, and they are not negotiable, we do acknowledge 2 categories of customers or service requests that may merit a special pricing arrangement.
Corporate Pricing
If you are with a very large company, who may be potentially a very large user of our services, then a call in to us to discuss your needs - both in terms of our resources, as well as your needs in terms of our pricing - would be in order. We would welcome such a discussion with you.
Without naming names specifically, we have over the years and even currently now, worked with some of the largest, international builder/contractor corporations that operate in our local service area - Southern Ontario.
If your company is a large general contractor, project manager, developer, utility, or government/municipality and wants to discuss our services and rates, please send us an email or call. If your usage of our services would seem to be frequent enough and of large enough volume on an ongoing basis, we may be able to offer you special lower rates, terms and other concessions, potentially.
Extended-Duration Assignments
Regardless of the size of your organization (as in, you don't have to be in the league as just described above), if you have need for our services, for machine with operator, that may extend continuously over a number of weeks, please let us know.
Typically, our services are needed on most jobsites for a day or two or three, in most cases. We get what they need done, done, we move on to the next customer, and return periodically as needed to that first customer again, whenever they call. So our stays tend to be of only a few days at a time typically. Periodically, a customer has a need for our services that may last several weeks continuously - on a residential subdivision site, a condo or office tower site, a commercial site (a mall, for example), some industrial developments, or institutional sites (hospitals, universities, etc).
If you have something that is of that kind of tenure - 2 weeks at least - please call us. We can offer you better pricing for such a lengthy assigment (sensibly, with some conditions attached to the lower pricing, of course - like minimum hours per week, payment terms, and so on). So please email or call us.

Special Long-term / Budget Bobcat Rental Rates:
for Custom Home Builders
Without a doubt many custom home builders would find very useful having a bobcat (skid steer loader) on site for the full duration of their building project, or a least for the majority of it. Having ready access to a machine at any time is a time-saving convenience, speeds the project along, saves labourious manual labour, allows the site to be kept tidier, and more organized. But owning a machine is a hassle and costly; and renting for a long time can be very expensive. Unitl now!
