Sub-point 4: Float Fee (actual pricing)
additional details -
Float fees are always based on the branch servicing you and its proximity to your jobsite, so it’s likely that when you booked dispatch was unable to quote you at that time a firm price for your float fee because they couldn’t be absolutely which operator would be coming to you and from which branch. (Why is that?)
He may have given you a price range if you asked. Those rates are all posted on this site regardless. What was missing at that time would have been the precise knowledge of what branch and/or operator would be servicing you as many days in advance that is not possible to say with certainty, due to the fluid nature of this business.
Additionally, at this time it may still not be possible to determine for certain what float price you will be charged because you may not know what payment method you would be using - and as you see by the float fee chart to qualify for the discounted float rates certain conditions must apply (like a cash-type payment method, including cheque/debit). Other conditions for that discount rate are how far in advance did you make your booking (or was it really last minute), did you book for a regular week day, or did you prefer a weekend or holiday, or similar.
But now, at the day before point, that who your machine operator will be has been established for 99% certainty, he will be able to provide you that information, what your float precisely will be (based on what you say you plan to use for payment).
Those float fees aren’t something just made up on the spot on a whim, but are fixed, and based on a map that each branch has which is specific to them. So all they do is read it as to where your site is on it, and they can tell you if you are in their A, B, C zone, or so on. Most float fees range at this time from a low of $100, to a high of about $110/120 if you are in their local home territory, and if they have to skip over another branch’s territory for some reason (such as you need equipment that only their branch stocks, or so that you don’t get left behind/rescheduled due to your closer branch being off-schedule they have to come in from a farther distance) you might be in the $130-150 range, a single charge, so a swing of $20 or 30 on the day in total, well worth it in most customers’ minds to get their work done on schedule rather than worrying about a few dollars. When your operator calls to talk with you about some of the above points he may or may not think to cover them all, and this policy point in particular. So, if it matters enough to you what the float fee is, don’t be afraid to ask him then as to what their fee will be for you.
